Acupuncture

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been around for thousands of years. It is unique, safe and effective.  TCM takes a holistic approach which aims to activate the innate healing ability of the body and mind.

Acupuncture is a form of Chinese Medicine that focuses on harmonising the mind, body and emotions.  Acupuncturists look at the body as a whole, including the mind, and rather than just focus on the symptoms acupuncture looks to identify and address the root cause of the problem.

Acupuncture uses the insertion of very fine needles in specific points to restore balance and allow the body to work the way it should, by helping the body’s Qi (energy flow). Good health is achieved when all the body’s systems are in balance and the Qi is no longer disturbed or stagnated.

There are different types of acupuncture and I use a combination of TCM, which focuses more on the body, and Five Elements, which focuses more on the emotions, as this combination creates a better therapeutic impact for you.

Although needles have more immediate impact Acupressure is also very effective, and something I use a lot with muscular problems, in addition to the needling.  If you really struggle with needles or the effect of the needles then acupressure can be used instead.  I will either use my hands or a “probe” (like a pen) to do this, depending on the outcome we are looking to achieve. A number of my clients have a dislike of needles but, in the majority of cases, once they have understood the process they are comfortable with the actual acupuncture needling. I am happy to explain and spend time with my clients to help overcome any concerns they may have about the needles themselves.

If you would like to understand more about how acupuncture works before deciding if it is the right thing for you then please call me and I will be happy to explain acupuncture in more detail.
